Dolomites Dirndl Ski Day

A fun event for women will take place on 07 March 2027, on the occasion of International Women's Day. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the GEA Association.

Val Gardena will celebrate Women’s Day on 07 March 2027 with a cheerful and colourful sporting event: the first women’s parallel slalom, where all participants will compete wearing a dirndl (traditional South Tyrolean dress). The race will take place on the Seceda near the Daniel Hut.

Meeting point for the first edition of the Dolomites Dirndl Ski Day is at 10:00 a.m. at the Daniel Hut, where an aperitif with snacks will be offered. The race itself – an easy parallel slalom with a dice game at the finish area – will start at 11:00 a.m.

Before and during the race there will be musical entertainment with DJ Simon & Ina Pross. The prize-giving ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m.

Participation is open exclusively to women in pairs (friends, sisters, mother/daughter, etc.) aged 18 to 99.

Entry fee: € 70.00 (for two persons; includes a great race package and an aperitif at the Sanon Hut). Maximum number of participants: 50 teams. Charity Teams may also register for € 150.00 per team. Part of the proceeds from the participation fee, as well as the entire fee from the Charity Teams, will be donated to the South Tyrolean association GEA, which is committed to combating violence against women and supporting those affected.

What is a Dirndl?

The Dirndl was conceived as work attire for Austrian women in the 19th century. It was then adopted by well-heeled Austrians only around 1870, becoming a fashion item for women of the time. Today, the Dirndl is used for formal occasions and during some traditional events. Many younger women wear more colourful versions compared to the original Dirndl for parties or other fun events.
